Дополнительная информация
The Banqueting House was designed and built by the renowned 17th-century architect Inigo Jones as part of Whitehall Palace, then the Sovereign’s main residence. Built to host state occasions, including masques, plays, and banquets in what was the largest palace in Europe.
The highlight of a visit is undoubtedly the magnificent ceiling, painted by Sir Peter Paul Rubens and commissioned by Charles I in the late 1620s. It is the only ceiling painting in by Rubens that is still in the same location for which it was created. However, it is perhaps most famous for being the site of the execution of Charles I in 1649, the only English King to be executed.
